As an artist and graphic designer, Lori Schaefer has always been fascinated with the colorful barn quilt signs that decorate the rural Wisconsin landscape. When she retired a few years ago from managing the Packaging Design Department at Organic Valley, she decided to learn how to make barn quilt paintings, and was motivated to make one for the pole building on her property. When she finished that project, she was hooked! Then she started learning more about the patterns, their meanings, and the history of barn quilts. This has led Lori to recreate some of her favorite folk art patterns, design her own creations, and to teach classes.
