In this class, you will experience the practice of Hardanger as a traditional Scandinavian needle craft and cutwork tradition.  Students will learn all the basic stitches used in Hardanger as well as some of the “hazards” to avoid in order to successfully cut your finished piece.  All students should successfully complete one small piece and begin an individually selected project to take home to continue the work!  Previous handwork experience (cross stitch, quilting) is helpful, but not required

Materials fee: (To be collected directly from students by instructor in class): $25.00 covers the Hardangar fabric, threads, and an initial pattern/pattern book.

Lori Zimmerman is an elementary school principal with generations of handwork experts in her family.  Currently 3 generations of women are working on Hardanger – amidst other handwork projects.  Lori never tires of the challenge different projects can bring as well as the comforting patterns of “counting to five,” wrapping threads, and the balanced designs of Hardanger work.  Her grandmother didn’t pick up a piece of Hardanger until age 75, proving you’re never too old to learn Hardanger.  And her daughter picked up her first piece as a 4-H project at age 14, proving you’re also never too young to learn!  Lori looks forward to sharing this traditional work with anyone interested in learning.
