Join singer and community choir leader Annie Zylstra at Folklore Village for a two-day venture into vocal polyphony from around the world over Samhain/Halloween weekend. In this class, participants will learn and sing a collection of multipart songs in a fun, supportive, accessible, and curiosity-invoking setting.

Throughout the last 8 years, Annie had dedicatedly collected new and old songs for many voices to sing village-style from around North America, the Balkans, the Republic of Georgia, the UK, Corsica, Russia, and more. People of all ages, abilities, genders, non-genders, and levels of musicality are encouraged to come and feel the splendor of strident harmonies and dissonance in traditional Georgian and Bulgarian two-voice singing, right alongside seasonal rounds written in Wisconsin. Come to explore the fun and importance of singing the songs of your own home as well as learning from the rich complexity of music from older traditions. At the time of the workshop, Annie will be freshly arrived home from a musical study trip to the Republic of Georgia and other Black Sea regions, and will have bundles of new songs to share.

Materials fee: (Paid directly to instructor during class):  none
