Plum Grove Chapel
A lovingly preserved one-room church originally built in 1882.
Originally known as the Plum Grove Primitive Methodist Church, it was constructed for a newly formed congregation—an outgrowth of the vibrant Methodist community in Mineral Point. Large numbers of Cornish immigrants, drawn by the lead and zinc mines in the area, brought their faith with them and built numerous Methodist churches throughout Iowa County. Plum Grove followed suit, changing its affiliation to the Congregational Church in 1913, and eventually became a community center in the 1930s.
After standing unused for more than 15 years, it was carefully relocated from north of Mineral Point to Folklore Village Farm, where it now honors the vision of our founder, Jane Farwell. Her grandfather once preached here, and her parents were married within these very walls. Recognized for its historical importance, the chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
