Free afternoon programs for seniors
Since 1994, Folklore Village has brought concerts and interactive performances to older and disabled adults in our region through our Senior Outreach Program. These events are open to all, from recently retired individuals to those living in care homes, as well as anyone at home seeking enjoyable and accessible activities. Family members, friends, and visitors of all ages are always welcome.
Old Grey Cats
June 17 | 1:30-2:30pm
Come spend an easy afternoon with The Old Grey Cats and enjoy some live bluegrass and folk music in good company.
With lively picking, familiar tunes, and that down-to-earth sound, their music is easy to settle into. You might find yourself tapping your toes, humming along, or just enjoying the rhythm of it all.
This is a laid-back gathering, just right for visiting and taking in the music. Folks of all ages are welcome, so bring a friend, bring the grandkids, or just come as you are.
Plucky Strummers
July 30 | 1:30-2:30pm
Riding the wave of the ukulele, Marian Maciej-Hiner, Kathy Schmidt, and Lori Adrian bring a playful mix of tunes from across the decades. Their set moves easily through tin pan alley, Americana, blues, classic pop, country, folk, bluegrass, and even a bit of rock and roll.
With warm harmonies, a touch of humor, and plenty of heart, this trio loves an audience that smiles and sings along. Their music is a reminder that those four little strings can carry just about anything, and that making music is something everyone can be part of.
Programs take place both at Folklore Village and at partner locations throughout Iowa County, including assisted living communities and senior centers. We invite you to check back regularly for upcoming offerings.
