Lauluaika (“Song Time”) is a Finnish folk band based in the Twin Cities. The group is committed to sharing and preserving Finnish and Finnish American folk music—specifically music played at dances in the old Finn Halls. Their repertoire includes Finnish couples dances, as well as lively group dances, and they invite audiences of all ages to join them in active listening and participation. Joyful and curious, Lauluaika members play a wide variety of instruments and have come to the group from a range of musical backgrounds. They actively perform throughout the Upper Midwest, as well as in Canada and Finland. Musical samples and upcoming performance dates at lauluaika.com and youtube.com/@Lauluaika.
Lauluaika’s activities at Folklore Village are made possible by a generous grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation.
