Maple Sugaring Basics

This hands-on class at a farm near Barneveld, WI (15 minutes from Folklore Village) will teach you the basics of maple sugaring, from tapping trees and collecting sap, to transforming sap into syrup.

Date: March 8, 2025 (hosted off campus at Bill Robichaud’s home farm, amidst 800 wooded acres of the Wisconsin Driftless Area; 15 minutes from Folklore Village)

In this hands-on course, we’ll explore the history, science, and art of turning maple sap to maple syrup.  Students will learn how to select a tree, tap it, collect the sap, give gratitude, and transform the sap to syrup.

Students need to bring the following supplies: A small jar to take some syrup home, and appropriate dress to work outside.
