Dates: January 12, 19 & 26; February 9, 16 & 23; 5:30 – 7:00 pm weekly for six weeks.
Skill Level: Ability to read a simple line of melody with the right hand; some ability to play with both hands. No knowledge of music theory is necessary.
Class Registration Fee: $120 for the 6-week class
This six-week, online class frees students with basic piano skills from using complicated written music. Instead, we will learn to use simple melodies and chord symbols to create two-hand arrangements. We will build a toolbox of ideas in many musical genres: folk, ballad, swing, R&B, and more. We will also explore accompaniment styles and improvisation.
For these sessions you will need to be able to set up a device to show the student at the piano, with keyboard visible.
Amy McFarland has been playing piano since she was a young child, with a focus on traditional music, dance music of many styles, song accompaniment, ragtime, swing, and more. She has played for traditional dancing for over forty years, has taught lessons and workshops, and has composed music. She has taught Piano off the Page to nearly 100 students for over a decade.
