Skill Level: All levels welcome! Participants should be comfortable singing in a group and learning music by ear. Participants should also be comfortable holding harmony parts with support of other group members. No “one-on-a-part” singing will be required, but opportunities to try singing in small groups could be built in if participants want to try.
Class Registration Fee: $40
This class will be a day-long workshop learning a selection of
folksongs and rounds from the United States, and Corsica. The songs will be simple to learn and taught by ear—no music-reading skill is necessary. Beyond learning specific songs, participants will get a chance to explore singing in potentially unfamiliar ways. All those interested in harmony singing are welcome to join a day of rich chords and sweet melodies.

Liam Kantor is a vocalist, traditional musician, teacher and researcher based in Evanston, Illinois, with specialities in community singing styles from around the world and Irish fiddle music. Built on years of intensive study and research, Liam strives to create spaces for genuine engagement with folk music and its particularities, whether it be in private lessons, small group experiences, or large workshops. As a Madison native and a multi-decade participant in Folklore Village, much of his folklife experience was through the programs of Folklore Village, with music, song, and dance occupying equally important parts of his musical upbringing.
